Zhangjiajie & Three Gorges China - Day 5

Day 5, we embarked on our voyage on Victoria Cruise down the Changjiang River and the Three Gorges. We boarded the ship at Yichang, somewhere near the Three Gorges Dam.

Above is our cruise ship.

We visited the Three Gorges Dam. It is a gigantic project. It was really eye-opening for us. Coincidently, we went at the time when there was much report about drought at the downstream that caused the authority to release water from the upstream. That cause the width of the river upstream to narrow and it could be dangerous for the heavily traffic waterway.

We had a pitstop. There are many stalls selling souviniers along the way.

It was a very nice cruise. Very relaxing! We could just laze around our ship balcony outside our cabin and view the scenery. Above picture shows a bridge we were passing through.

This is the exciting part. In order to move through the dam, we have to go through steps like staircase for the ship. Each time the door will open, we go in, then we waited for the water to rise, then the next door open, we went in, and again wait for the water to rise... We went through 5 of those.

The door open, our ship moving in.

From our balcony, we could see barge line up next to our ship climbing the steps together.

We decided to sit right at the front of the ship, witnessing the process of step climbing by the ship.

After a sumptious dinner, we watched a performance. The dancers and performers are waiters, waitresses and staff on the ship. They are indeed talented.
